Outstanding flamenco guitarist Juan Gomez “Chicuelo” delivered a passionate and intense performance at Queen’s Hall. Chicuelo, is one of the most outstanding guitarists on the flamenco scene, put his genius on full display when he led the Spanish ensemble for the hour-long concert.
For fans new to flamenco and its exhilarating rhythms, the show was a fascinating introduction.
Chicuelo appeared on stage dressed in black and white and hugging his guitar – the instrument is an important element of flamenco folk art, which is the historic folk music of the Andalusia region in southern Spain.
“I’m glad to be here in Trinidad and Tobago for the first time. I hope you enjoy our music,” Chicuelo said minutes after he settled in his seat, at the St Ann’s venue last Wednesday. His fingers then touched the strings of the guitar and for about three minutes he seemed lost in the music, playing passionately and drawing the audience into a world of powerful emotions and expressions.
