“Sabor Flamenco a Journey in Music” at Queen’s Hall

Spain’s exhilarating flamenco culture will come alive when renowned guitarists Juan Gomez Chicuelo is featured in the Spanish embassy’s annual Christmas concert on Wednesday at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s.

Chicuelo will be accompanied by the talents of singer Joaquin “el Duende,” and dancer Maria del Mar Fuentes.

Now in its fifth year, guests at the concert titled “Sabor Flamenco” will be treated to the flamenco folk art, which is the historic folk music of the Andalusia region in southern Spain. “This is one of the most widely known cultural art forms in the world and it’s a style that we think fits very well in Trinidad and Tobago,” said Spanish Ambassdor José María Fernández López de Turiso, during the launch of the concert last Wednesday at his St Clair residence. He said the natural, rhythmic style of Trinbagonians will lend to an appreciation of the flamenco art form, which has three basic elements: cante (singing), toque (guitar playing), and baile (dancing).
