THE Facebook page of former Queen’s Hall chairman of the board, Margaret Walcott, who died on Ash Wednesday, was yesterday filled with notes of thanks and love from those close to her and those whom she has helped over the years.
Walcott, who one writer yesterday referred to as a “beautiful spirit”, was also at one time the wife of Nobel laureate, Derek Walcott.
Deeply involved in local theatre and considered a pioneer in bringing the scene to life, Walcott was also significant in the early establishment of the Trinidad Theatre Workshop, which was founded by her former husband.
Originally trained as a medical social worker, Walcott had been ill for a long time but was up to last November actively involved in the theatre, serving on the steering committee that brought O Starry Starry Night to Trinidad.
