OLYMPIC JAVELIN king Keshorn Walcott collected four awards, out of five nominations, at the second annual Spirit of Sports Awards (SOSA) on Friday evening at the Queen’s Hall in St Ann’s.
The 19-year-old, who threw 84.58 metres to earn a stunning victory in the Olympic Games in London, England, was named as the Breakthrough Athlete, the Consistent Performer, the Male Athlete of the Year and the Sport Performance of the Year – which was voted by fans online (Facebook, Twitter and the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago website).
Walcott’s was unable to cop a handful of titles as cyclist Njisane Phillip took home the Record Breaking Performance for smashing the national flying 200-metre record twice.
Walcott’s Cuban-born coach Ismael Lopez Mastrapa was adjudged the Coach of the Year while national 100m sprint queen Kelly-Ann Baptiste was voted as the Best Female Athlete. Read full article here.
